Our Curriculum
At Stella Maris Catholic Primary School, our curriculum is designed to help every child grow in knowledge, confidence and faith. We follow the National Curriculum for England while ensuring that learning is rooted in our Catholic values and the teachings of the Church. Each subject is taught clearly and progressively, so children build secure foundations and develop the skills they need for future learning. Lessons are planned to be engaging and purposeful, with opportunities for children to practise, reflect and apply their learning across the wider curriculum.
We place strong emphasis on high-quality teaching, meaningful assessment and supporting all learners to achieve their best. Reading is at the heart of our approach, with structured teaching that helps children develop fluency, comprehension and a love of books. Mathematics is taught with a focus on reasoning and problem-solving, building confidence through carefully sequenced learning. Across subjects such as science, history, geography, art, design technology, computing, music and physical education, children learn key knowledge and skills through practical activities, discussion and real-world links. We work closely with families to reinforce learning at home and ensure children are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
